May 16, 2023

A workshop on sexual attraction to children in therapy offered by University of Bergen

In the 2PS project research framework, the Department of Health Promotion and Development and the Department of Clinical Psychology (University of Bergen, Leader of activities aligning prevention to the mental health needs of people with a sexual interest in children in 2PS) is organising a workshop for mental health experts who seek to expand their expertise in working with clients dealing with sexual attraction to children in therapy.

The workshop will be on the 22nd of May, from 9am to 4pm, held in Bergen (NO) by Dr. Sara Jahnke and Agatha Chronos, part of the 2PS team, Dr. Skye Stephens (associate Professor at St Mary’s University), Pia Theisen (Clinical Psychologist, private practice), and Desiree Elchuk.

Specifically, the seminar will cover a range of topics and practical exercises, including:

  • assessment of sexual attraction to children in therapy and offending risk
  • common treatment needs and goals
  • interventions to increase client well-being and reduce offending risk
  • laws and regulations that guide clinical practice with this group

Therefore, participants will have the opportunity to learn from experienced psychologists and researchers from Norway and Canada.

Additionally, they will have an evidence-based understanding of how to support their clients in navigating challenges and to change their lives for the better.
